What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. It holds information about your visit — preferences, settings, sometimes an identifier — so that the site can work properly, remember what you chose, or measure how it is being used.
Some cookies are set by this website. Others are set by third parties whose services are used here, such as analytics or advertising providers. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels, SDKs — are covered by this policy too.
What we use them for
- Strictly necessary cookies. They make the site work: page delivery, caching, security, and remembering the choice you made in the consent banner. These do not require your consent, because without them the site cannot function.
- Analytics cookies. They tell us, in aggregate, which pages are read, how people arrive and where they leave. This is what lets us find out that a page is not answering the question people asked. They are only set if you accept them.
- Advertising and personalisation cookies. Set by third parties to show advertising and to measure it, potentially based on a profile built from your browsing. Only set if you accept them.
Managing your choice
The first time you visit, a consent banner appears. You can accept all, reject all, or choose by category — and rejecting is as easy as accepting.
You can change your mind whenever you like on the cookie settings page. Withdrawing consent stops future processing; it does not undo processing already carried out lawfully.
Turning cookies off in your browser
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. The controls are under Settings, usually within Privacy:
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
A warning about blocking everything: if you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of this site may not display correctly, and the consent banner will reappear on every visit — because the record of your choice is itself stored in a cookie.
Third-party cookies
Where analytics or advertising services are used, the cookies they set are governed by their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Consent management on this site is handled by a consent platform whose only job is to record and honour your choice.
How long they last
Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay for a defined period — from a few days for some technical cookies up to a couple of years for analytics identifiers — or until you delete them. Your consent record is kept long enough to avoid asking you again on every page.
Changes to this policy
Cookies used by a website change as its tools change. We update this policy when that happens, and the version published here is the one in force.
