Philippine Consulate in Kansas

Kansas is part of the Chicago consular district, which is a long way east. It is one of the states where the twelve-state jurisdiction of that post is felt most sharply.

The consulate with jurisdiction over Kansas

Responsibility for Kansas sits with the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, whose district takes in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. That is the only post that can process your application, whatever another office may be nearer.

How far the consulate is from your city

Driving distances to the post that covers each city, calculated at posted speed limits and without traffic:

City Philippine post Distance Journey
Kansas City Chicago 513 miles 9 h 42 min by car
Overland Park Chicago 523 miles 9 h 57 min by car
Topeka Chicago 573 miles 10 h 44 min by car
Wichita Chicago 709 miles 13 h 3 min by car

From Wichita that is 13 h 3 min by car each way, which makes it worth checking the consular outreach schedule before committing to the drive: missions bring passport and dual citizenship services to cities without a post, and the appointments are free.

Three procedures that never reach a counter

Three of the most searched Philippine procedures in the United States are not consular procedures at all, and knowing that is worth more than knowing the opening hours:

  • PSA certificates — birth, marriage, death, CENOMAR — come from the Philippine Statistics Authority and are ordered online.
  • Apostilles on documents issued in Kansas come from the state’s own competent authority. Since 15 May 2019 the consulate cannot authenticate them.
  • NBI clearance is issued in the Philippines and applied for by mail; only the fingerprint card needs a consular officer.

Set against that, three things cannot be delegated or posted: passport biometrics, the RA 9225 oath, and signing a notarial document in front of a consular officer. For those, the trip is unavoidable.

Wichita to Chicago is a ten-hour drive or a connecting flight. Anyone in Kansas should treat a consular trip as a planned journey and confirm the document checklist by email before setting out.
